Inspections of Properties with Building Permits

The town of Colchester Assessor’s Office will be conducting inspections of all properties that have had building permits issued in the last year. Terri Sabens will be inspecting residential properties on weekends as well as some evenings starting on Saturday March 24th until all building permits have been inspected. Robert Vickery, the Town Assessor will be inspecting all commercial properties and new construction. Both Terri and Robert will have identification as well as a letter from the Assessor’s Office explaining who they are and what they are doing.

If you are a property owner that has been issued a building permit in the last year you can expect Terri or Robert to be knocking on your door in the months of March and April. If you wish to have your inspection by appointment or have any questions about these inspections please call the Assessor’s Office at (802) 264-5670.

  1. champlainer says:

Suggestion: Coordination on visits to completed building projects requiring permits by the building inspector and the assessor’s office for one visit instead of two would be far more efficient and convenient for the building owner and would save a trip in town vehicles.

  2. Thank you for your suggestions. I passed them on, and received this response from Sarah Hadd, Director of Planning and Zoning:

“Within the past year the Town has made additional efforts to schedule these inspections at the same time whenever feasible for the property owner, the inspector, and the assessor. The challenge can be that a property ready for occupancy from a safety point might not have all of the finishes completed that the assessor will need to see and therefore we can not always make this a standard one trip per property. Please be assured that this consolidation of efforts has been made and we will continue to look for these types of efficiencies moving forward.”
